War of the fireflies
January 21st, 2008 | Posted by in Experiments | Flash 9 | Particles | Simulations | SourceDerived from one of my older experiments: Three different populations of fireflies are fighting for their survival. If a firefly encounters an enemy fly, it tries to convert it to their tribe. The converted fly looses lifepoints and eventually dies during conversion. For the “collision logic”, I used a slightly modified version of Grant Skinners AS3 Proximitymanager. You can download the source and play around with it here (but don’t expect beautiful code ;)).

i had to laughing about your comment “beautiful code” :)
very nice and helpful to calm down after a long day :)
Geil babylonisch – mir fehlen nur noch die per flash sound hack selbst erzeugten Kampfgeräusche!
I just found your site by accident…. Looks really nice! ^^
Hey, great particle code here.
I read through the code, its very easy to understand. (probably because I’ve been writing particle stuff for a while now ;) )
I had been struggling with the perlin noise stuff, but your code really shed some light on how it can control particles.
Thanks a ton,
Mike
